The Executive Council

The Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah, the supreme executive authority of the emirate, was established in October 1999 with the aim of assisting the ruler in performing his duties and exercising his powers, drawing the general policy of the emirate, and implementing development plans to raise the social and economic standard in the emirate. It also seeks to coordinate between all government departments and agencies to serve the community, and keep pace with the aspirations of citizens and residents of the Emirate of Sharjah.

According to Law No. (2) of 1999 and its amendments, the Executive Council undertakes a number of functions, the most prominent of which are:

– Setting the objectives and general policies for economic, social and administrative development, and proposing the means and measures necessary for their implementation that ensure the proper use of financial, economic and human resources.

– Proposing draft laws and decrees and refer them to the competent authorities for approval by the courts.

– Taking care of the interests of citizens, ensuring the provision of the necessary services to them, and raising their economic, social, health and cultural level.

– Supervising the functioning of the administrative body in the Emirate, following up on its performance, coordinating among its units, and oversight the continuous administrative development and education.

– Supervising the proper implementation of federal and local laws, regulations, and resolutions, as well as implementing the judgments and decisions of the competent courts.

– Approval of important conventions and any other agreements that entail material or moral obligations to the emirate.

– Taking care of and preserving the local heritage, encouraging scientific research, arts and literature, caring for and developing natural resources, and ensuring that major development projects are in line with the applicable environmental laws and regulations.

– Preparing the annual general budget project and the final account of the emirate, referring it to the competent authorities, and then submitting it to the courts for ratification.
