SEC reviews SSSD’s annual report

Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Executive Council, in the presence of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, chaired, Tuesday, the Sharjah Executive Council meeting, held in the Ruler’s office in Sharjah.

 

The meeting discussed a number of topics related to the progress of government work, plans to develop government services, and the implementation of different developmental and national projects and initiatives in Sharjah.

 

The Council reviewed the 2022 annual report of Sharjah Social Services Department, which included social security, welfare and social protection, community service, and new initiatives.

 

Social security included social assistance, whereas more than 11000 beneficiaries received a value of 430 million dirhams. It also included economic and educational empowerment services through a production centre for home production and an empowerment office.

 

The report reviewed the services provided in the field of social protection and care, whereas services where delivered to shelters, home care, physiotherapy services and check-ups, and to members of Al-Asala clubs, health services, family protection and support services, and minors affairs services.

 

The report reviewed the community service, and the voluntary opportunities provided by the Sharjah Centre for Voluntary Work in cooperation with different agencies, whereas 6191 volunteers were involved. It also included the number of educational and social programmes in addition to the number of licenses issued to practice social activities.

 

The report included the new initiatives implemented by Sharjah Social Services Department in response to different events and crises, and the modern services launched to enhance the level of services and provide them to a larger segment of beneficiaries.

 

The Council reviewed the draft master plan for rainwater and groundwater drainage in Sharjah, which included the most prominent challenges of the current situation and their causes, and plans to implement temporary and permanent solutions. The plan aims to meet the needs of the urban and cultural development in Sharjah, to develop a balanced system for rainwater drainage, to raise the efficiency of the existing infrastructure, and to develop long- and short-term plans. The plan was developed according to a number of criteria, including population density, urban development, and protection of Sharjah, in addition to the modernisation of standard design, and the strengthening of the strategic reserve of groundwater.

 

The Council addressed the necessity of strengthening the components of the plan periodically by following up on updating environmental studies and data, reviewing best practices and developing permanent future solutions.

 

In order to promote the significant growth in the industrial sector and automotive activities in Sharjah, and in order to provide greater opportunity for entrepreneurs and individuals, the Council approved the practice of trading used auto parts in the Industrial Area No. (4) in addition to the areas previously approved by the Council.
