His Excellency Abdullah Mohammed AlOwais

His Excellency Abdullah Mohammed AlOwais chairs the Sharjah Department of Culture. H.E. is also the vice chairman of the Higher Committee for Human Resources (Civil Service), the chairman of the Executive Committee of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah’s Initiative to Establish Houses of Poetry in the Arab World Countries, the chairman of the Higher Coordinating Committee of the “Sharjah Cultural/ Heritage Days around the World” project, editor-in-chief of six cultural magazines issued monthly by the Department of Culture: (Al-Rafid – Sharjah Cultural – Al-Hirah from Sharjah – Al Qawafi – Al Wusta – Al Sharqiya), member of the National Media Council and board member of the National Council for Tourism and Antiquities.

H.E. chaired Sharjah T.V. from 1998 to 2001 and was named the first director of the House of Poetry and the Arts Square in Sharjah. He is a founding member of the Arab Authority for Theater, the chairman of the Higher Coordination Committee for Documentation and Research in Sharjah, member of the Executive Committee for preparing the “Heart of Sharjah” file that is to be included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites from the year of its establishment (2013) until the accreditation by UNESCO in 2017. He is also a member of the Supreme Committee for the Emirates Appreciation Award for Sciences, Arts and Literature – First Session (2006).

H.E. Abdullah Mohammed AlOwais holds a B.A. degree in Technology Management from the University College of New England – the USA, and has won the first place in the competition launched by the Ministry of Information and Poetry Culture on the occasion of the Federation’s silver jubilee in 1996.
